Our Research and
Development Kitchen
Our Research and Development (R&D) Kitchen is constantly innovating to create new and unique
recipes. This process involves preparing, quality testing, and coordinating sample tastings multiple
times a day, all of which leads to the high quality and delicious products our customers love. This
process, however, also generates significant food and single-use plastic waste.
Recognizing an opportunity, the R&D staff formed a Green Team comprised of employees
committed to championing sustainable practices in their everyday work. One of the first projects
tackled was preventing food and plastic waste from ending up in landfills. In 2024, the R&D Kitchen
officially eliminated single-use plates and utensils and collaborated with the facilities team to
compost their kitchen’s food waste. The team also implemented a reusable container system for
dry spice blends that replaced single-use plastic containers.
As a result, R&D now diverts on average 7,000
pounds of food waste and 12,500 plastic
spoons and plates annually from landfills.
