Recovering
Food Waste
We strive to minimize food waste as much as possible. However,
100% of food waste cannot always be repurposed due to safety
issues or the lack of infrastructure to depackage finished products
on a large scale.
To address these challenges, two of our Oregon plants partnered
with a local upcycling business that offers sustainable solutions for
food waste, helping to reduce emissions and minimize stress on
landfills. Food waste from our operations that cannot be donated
or easily depackaged is redirected and processed into animal feed
for farms.
In 2024, we diverted over
1,200 tons of food waste
from landfills through this
partnership. This success
has inspired us to explore
similar local options near our
other plants.
