Farmer Spotlight:
Amstad Produce, Sherwood, Oregon
Just 20 miles from our Century facility, Amstad Produce is one of our valued local partners. The
Amstad family’s relationship with Reser’s dates back to our earliest days, when they supplied
red potatoes to our first president, Al Reser. After a brief pause, we proudly renewed this
partnership—and it’s been thriving ever since.
What makes Amstad Produce truly stand out is their comprehensive “seed-to-table” approach.
Every stage of the process—from cultivating seed potatoes and cutting seeds, to planting,
harvesting, storing, and delivering—is managed entirely in-house. This level of control ensures
that the potatoes used in our products consistently meet the highest standards of quality,
freshness, and reliability.
Amstad embraces sustainable farming practices through a three-year crop rotation system. Each
crop plays a vital role in maintaining soil health:
•
Wheat builds organic matter and enhances the soil’s ability to retain water and nutrients.
•
Clover naturally produces nitrogen and improves soil structure, aeration, and water infiltration.
•
Potatoes benefit from the enriched soil conditions created by the previous crops.
This rotation not only boosts crop yields and farm productivity but also reduces soil depletion,
minimizes pest and disease pressure, and lowers the need for chemical inputs—making the farm
more resilient and environmentally responsible.
And because Amstad is located so close to our Century facility, their potatoes travel one of the
shortest distances from field to finished product in our entire supply chain, helping reduce our
carbon footprint.
