Case Study:
Using Technology to
Minimize Errors
To reduce the risk of potential defects we invested in enhanced
inspection and automation technologies across our operations. In 2025,
our Hillsboro, Oregon facility and our baked facility in Topeka, Kansas
implemented several technology upgrades to minimize risk:
AI-powered vision systems now verify label accuracy, confirm the
presence of package sleeves, and validate code dates. When a noncompliant item is detected, the production line automatically stops—
allowing teams to remove only the affected product rather than an
entire case. This improves efficiency, reduces investigation time, and
minimizes waste.
Barcode-based order verification replaces manual data entry.
Scanning the barcode instantly pulls all required order
information, reducing the potential for human error and
improving traceability.
Vision systems on potato processing lines detect
foreign material in real time, automatically
stopping the conveyor to protect product integrity
and food safety.
These technologies will be rolled out to more
facilities in the future.
